Do you send Christmas Cards to your family and friends this time of year?  If so, you have a man maned Sir Henry Cole to thank for that tradition!

In 1843, Cole found that he did not have the time to write the traditional letters to friends and family at Christmas time.  He hired an artist, John C. Horsley, to design a card for him to use in place of letters.  A thousand cards were commissioned and so the idea of sending greetings using cards was begun.  By the 1860s this idea became very popular and continues to be so today.
