In some countries either on Christmas Day or closer to New Year’s, an old tradition called first-footing will take place. First-Footing is the first person to walk through the front door on Christmas morning is said to “let Christmas in.” Some families take First-Footing so seriously that they actually hire a professional to do the job right. He comes in the front door, and exits throughout the back. He is usually presented with a gift of salt or bread to show hospitality and greetings, and then sent on his way.
